Marco Polo (1254-1324)
Marco Polo was born in Venice 1254 and grew up there for most of his life. Marco Polo could understand and speak Italian aswell as French. Marco`s hobbies were examining plants and animals, reading texts from the bible and basic theology .
At the end of year 1271, receiving letters and valuable gifts for the Great Khan, the Polos once more set out from Venice on their journey to the east. They took with them 17-year-old Marco Polo.They passed through Armenia, Persia, and Afghanistan, over the Pamirs, and all along the Silk Road to China.
He encourged all the other travellers in his determination to sail , to write and he had a great influence on others. His whole journey through Asia lasted 24 years. He did a whole lot better than anyone who attemped to sail before him. He passed China and Mongolia.
Marco died at the age of 70. He was know to have Cancer and died on the 8th of January 1324 although this date is not certain. He did die in the year of 1324.
